Outreach/Missions

At Aldersgate, our passion is to BE the church, not just a place to go to church. Church is not just about what happens inside the walls of the building but what happens outside the walls of the building. That is why we are radically committed to IMPACTING the world.

Whether it’s one of our events such as assembling care giver kits to be sent to Africa to help those dealing with the HIV crisis, putting together food baskets to provide for those who otherwise would not have a Thanksgiving meal, walking a couple of miles during our church service on Sunday morning to raise awareness for those who walk miles daily to bring clean water to their family, being part of a short-term mission team, or any of the many other outreach events that happen you will discover that our heartbeat is missions. In fact, the outreach event is not as important as the event that happens inside of us anytime we allow God to work through us.

Local

Hope Community of Shalom, Inc., www.hopeshalom.org
Hope Community of Shalom seeks to build community, weave unity, and transform the world one community at a time. In Lubbock, Hope Community of Shalom takes up residence in the Asbury United Methodist Church building and supports many ministries out of that building including Fiesta Domingo. Fiesta Domingo is a Sunday afternoon experience which provides a warm meal and food assistance to those in need.

Living Abundantly Ministries, Inc., www.living-abundantly.org
Living Abundantly Ministries is a Christ-centered, culturally relevant ministry which provides gospel filled programs to economically disadvantaged children in elementary and middle school to help them grow spiritually, physically, interpersonally, and intellectually. Their programs include sports camps, after school activities, and mentoring opportunities.

The Bridge, www.bridgeoflubbock.org
The Bridge works to restore hope by empowering at-risk teens and their families in East Lubbock. They bring community agencies and ministries together under one roof and promote the sharing of resources to more efficiently meet the needs of those served.

Backyard Mission, www.backyardmission.org
Backyard Mission is a local home repair ministry, serving the low-income and elderly. They address repairs that help get the home “warm and dry”. BYM receives referrals and the homeowner’s age, income, value of the home, number of people living in the home, and the repairs requested are all used to evaluate the application received. The work is done free by volunteers when possible and professionals are paid when necessary. Materials are purchased with donated funds.

Quest Restoration Ministries is dedicated to walking with people on journeys of restoration. This includes life coaching, inner healing, spiritual mapping, leadership training and support. The goal is to offer ministry without adding financial stress to the person or family in need.

Sin City Ministries, www.sincityministries.com
Sin City Ministries is a contemporary praise and worship outreach which desires to evangelize the lost, establish them as disciples, and equip them to be disciple makers. Sin City Ministries focuses on neighborhood support groups, in-home discipleship groups, and special outreach ministries.

Teen Parents of Lubbock, www.yfclubbock.org
Teen Parents is a relational ministry of Youth for Christ/USA that reaches out to pregnant and parenting teenagers and their children. Our mission is to support, encourage, and equip them with the life, relationship and parenting skills they need. Our goal is to see these young families become emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy. Our purpose is to see them become successful, responsible adults and life-long followers of Jesus Christ. Teen Parents of Lubbock seeks to involve resources of the community to help young parents build balanced lives.

David Johnson
David is a seminary student at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. David attended and served at Aldersgate for several years before moving to Dallas to attend seminary.

EQUIP. EVANGELIZE. ESTABLISH. Since 1987, e3 Partners has brought a unique, biblically-based approach to world missions that has produced significant results in cultures around the world. The focus is church multiplication, incorporating all the key elements of Christ’s commission of going, making disciples, teaching and baptizing in order to plant and grow new churches. Clyde and Nancy work in the Plano, Texas office where they administrate and participate in e3’s initiatives.

International Students, Inc. (Andy & Sandy Pearce), www.isiwebnet.net
International Students, Inc. (ISI) in Southern California seeks to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of international students, scholars, and their families in the context of genuine and unconditional hospitality and friendship. ISI is a non-profit Christian friendship organization. Religious beliefs are never forced on a student and friendship and assistance are offered unconditionally. If students are not interested in Christianity, they receive the same care and help as those who are interested.

Sonscape, www.sonscape.org
Sonscape retreats offer a safe place for pastors, missionaries, and those in vocational ministry to go away and find rest and renewal which is critical for healthy life and ministry. Sonscape retreats are not just for those in crisis but for all who desire their ministry to flow out of a deep intimate walk with the Lord.

Global

Ray and Lydia Zirkel, http://zirkelministrycostarica.com
Ray and Lydia Zirkel are missionaries serving the Methodist Church in San Jose, Costa Rica. Ray is an ordained elder in the Methodist Church and serves as a professor at the Evangelical Methodist Seminary. In addition, Ray is a member of the Board of Directors of the Methodist High School and Elementary School; and, he helps to plant and develop local congregations. Ray and Lydia are currently working with the child welfare agency and the Methodist Church to build a children’s home in San José. They host 20 to 25 short-term Missionary Teams each year who work on a variety of church related projects.

OMEGA missions work to support rural churches, communities, and organizations in Tanzania, Africa. They transform lives in the impoverished communities by meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the people. OMEGA is an acronym which stands for Outreach Missions Empowering Grassroots Action. OMEGA provides cross-cultural experiences for individuals, churches, and university groups to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ with their time, talent, and resources. OMEGA works to help American churches in their transformation as well as in the transformation of the people of Tanzania.

Ed & Debra Lloyd, www.omegamissions.org
Omega Missions Project Managers, Ed and Debra Lloyd were long-time residents of Lubbock, Texas. After participating in the first Omega mission trip in 2005, Ed knew he would return to work in Tanzania for an extended period. He returned in 2006 and worked on several projects in Moshi and Babati. Later that year, Ed and Debra made the decision to sell their possessions and both move and work in Tanzania on a full-time basis. Ed has a wide variety of skills which have proven to be an asset working on different projects. Debra has experience as an accountant and manager; however her passion lies in building relationships with the people of Tanzania and hosting Omega teams. The Lloyd’s make all preparations prior to a team/volunteer’s arrival in Tanzania and facilitate the visit from arrival to departure. Between hosting Omega teams, they are fulfilling God’s call to work alongside the Tanzanians through water projects. Ed and Debra can be contacted, in Tanzania, at lloyds@omegamission.org

New Life Children’s Home (Kendon & Wendy Wheeler), http://www.nlch.net/
Orphaned, abandoned and abused children have found a refuge and safe haven at New Life Children's Home in Guatemala. NLCH is truly a “home” for these needy children, where their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are addressed. Special attention is given to introducing them to Jesus Christ, nurturing and discipling them in a relationship with him, and providing each child with a sound academic Christian education.
